Fiona's English Class

Week 1

Welcome to remote teaching…

COMPETITION: I know it’s been a while, but I still want you to complete a compilation of ads for the Anti Shark Finning Campaign. These are the tasks - choose one option, form a group and complete it before the end of next week’s lesson. The best entry in each section will receive a gift voucher for the canteen.

DIRECTIVE: create an ad campaign to raise people’s awareness of the barbaric practice of shark finning. Include the negative effects of decreased/extinct shark populations on the ecosystem.

CREATIVE: Use a combination of shocking imagery (visual and verbal) and proven facts. Or, personify/humanise the sharks to remove the “jaws” image and fear most people have of these animals.

1. Video

Script, shoot and edit your concept. Tenny has a concept he has told me about - stop procrastinating and do it! Post your work on this site and YouTube, I’ll contact Sea Shepherd.

2. Music video clip

Choose a relevant song and create an accompanying clip using video and/or still images. If necessary/appropriate, include facts. Most people in the class should have a stockpile of images and facts saved… This clip could be done using Garage Band, Keynote or the program Hugh and Sam used to create their Protest music clips. Ask Hugh, Marlo or Maddy for help.

3. Poster

Using the formula of Attention, Interest, Desire and Action, construct a colour poster including visuals and text. The best of these will be printed on A3 glossy paper. You all know how to create print ads.

4. Radio ad

Script, record and edit a 20 - 30 second radio ad. Include, as appropriate, scripted dialogue, sound effects and music. It would be good to promote Sea Shepherd as the action people can take. You can record using Garage Band. Even if you use humour, make this a serious effort. We will present the best to Bay FM for airplay.

Go for it guys, please use this time wisely. If it is reported back to me that you are cruising through the lesson looking at myspace, irrelevant YouTube or gaming sites etc, I will construct much more structured work that will be much less fun. Consider yourself warned…
